A Report On The Chinese-English Translation Of "Installation Contract Of Gaotang Project"

Due to the development of globalization,Chinese enterprises begin to expand their business in other countries.More and more projects are emerging,together with many transnational contracts.These contracts shall be presented in bilingual versions.So,translators are in great demand.Here is a report on the translation of the Chinese construction contract of Hangzhou Banwang Construction Labour Service Co.,Ltd done in July,2020.The contract consists of 35 pages(22,795 Chinese characters).The translator selects cases from the translation,analyses the main problems,and proposes some translation strategies for these problems.This report is written in accordance with the order: the pre-translation preparation,the actual act of translation,and the revision.Firstly,a general introduction is given to the whole report.According to the features of the original text,the translator makes a preparation for the translation,including the analysis of the original text,the applicable theory and the parallel texts.Then,through the case analysis,this report deals with the issues that translators are supposed to pay attention to in the translation of construction contracts: how to control the progress and quality of translation;how to apply Newmark’s Theory of Textual Typology to the translation,and then propose solutions to increase the readability of the target text;and the translators’ qualification.After the revision,the translator proposes the following strategies:Finding the equivalents for original terms,recasting the original sentences to make the translation more accurate and adding connectives to make the text more coherent.By the description of the translation process and the analysis of the translation,the translator realizes that adequate preparation before translation,especially searching for parallel texts,can reduce translation obstacles;pre-translation preparation time,actual translation time and quantity should be scheduled reasonably to ensure that the translation can be completed on time;by applying textual-type theory,the effect of the original text can be achieved;the translator should make the target version attain professional quality,and improve skills constantly through reading and training.At the same time,it is hoped that this report will be helpful to other translators engaged in the translation of similar construction contracts.
