With the deepening development and cooperation of global economy, international communications, particularly the economic ones have been increasingly tightened. In this process, contract has been played a very important role in regulating economic behaviors.Meanwhile,China has made great contributions to worldwide infrastructures especially the ones in developing countries.Accordingly, construction contracts have been increasingly important in economic activities, however the quality cannot be equivalent. As technical translation in a specialized area, the translations of construction contracts require not only comprehensive language competence but also specialized knowledge in the construction area.At the same time,cross-cultural knowledge is also essential to the translation.High quality translation can guarantee the successful completion of construction project. However, problems such as inaccuracy,Chinglish adversely affect the quality of contract translation. The main contents of Newmark's theory include text type, semantic translation and communicative translation. On one hand, this thesis will analyze the text, terminology and application characteristics from the above three aspects. On the other hand, take literal translation and free translation as examples to analyze translation strategies of construction contracts based on Newmark's theory. From the perspective of Newmark's translation theory, this thesis will probe constructive translation strategies through text analysis and give suggestions on the possible solution to the current problems.
