| The era of globalization and information technology has put forward higher requirements for our country’s strategy of building a powerful talent country,and the country needs a large number of talents with homeland feelings,international vision,global consciousness and cross-cultural communication ability.In the face of the changes and needs of the times and the requirements of the Party and the state to improve the quality of all citizens and talents,the Ministry of Education has successively carried out the formulation of new curriculum standards and the reform of teaching materials,and put forward "the core literacy of English".This paper studies the Chinese cultural content in the new English textbook,evaluates whether it conforms to the cultural goal of the 2017 version of the new curriculum standard,and puts forward practical suggestions for the improvement of English textbooks in China and suggestions for teachers in the process of use.It is beneficial to the development of English teaching materials and the implementation of English teaching.Based on the analysis of the existing literature,combined with the theory of cross-cultural communication and the requirements of the English Curriculum Standard of General Senior Middle School(2017 Edition)for the content of Chinese culture,this study has determined the dimensions and framework of the research and analysis of the teaching materials,and analyzed the Chinese cultural content in the new textbooks.This paper analyzes the comparison of Chinese cultural content in the textbook to study the situation of avoiding cultural obstacles in the textbook;analyzes the accumulation of Chinese cultural vocabulary,the expression of language skills,and the cultural types to study the cultivation of Chinese cultural communication ability in the new textbook,and analyzes the theme types of Chinese cultural units to study the emotional edification of students.Some results can be obtained from this study.First,the part of Chinese culture in the new textbook appears about 1/3 of the whole part,and the textbook consciously sets up a cultural contrast to help students become sensitive to the cultural differences at home and abroad and reduce cultural barriers caused by cultural differences.However,the textbook attaches greater importance to the comparison of Chinese and Western cultural differences but ignores the internal contrast of Chinese culture;Second,with regard to the accumulation of Chinese cultural words and phrases,the proportion of the contents covered by the reappearance of the Chinese content in the new textbook is relatively small.The contents of Chinese culture are reflected in the training of the five language skills of "listening,speaking,reading,watching and writing "with the largest proportion of "reading".By the contrast,"speaking"and"writing"is insufficient.Besides,the new teaching materials are biased towards social culture and material culture,covering most of the cultural knowledge required by the new curriculum standard,which conforms to the cultural orientation of the 2017 edition of the new curriculum standard,but some Chinese cultural themes required in the new curriculum standard are not mentioned in these three books.The content of Chinese culture involved in some units is seriously inadequate.Third,the new teaching materials attach great importance to the infiltration of Chinese excellent culture in language learning under various cultural themes,integrate into the education of socialist core values,enhance students’national pride,and cultivate students’ ability to become qualified socialist builders with homeland feelings,international vision,and cross-cultural communicationFinally,according to the concrete analysis of the new teaching material,the study puts forward some suggestions on the use of teachers’ teaching materials and the subsequent revision of teaching materials.Teachers need to select teaching materials and balance the content of Chinese culture properly.In the revision of teaching materials,it is suggested to supplement the missing cultural types and increase the reappearance and contrast of Chinese culture. |
