A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Sixth Man (Excerpt) Under The Guidance Of Compensation Strategy

This is an English-Chinese translation practice report,and the translation task is the seventh and eighth chapters of The Sixth Man,the autobiography of Warriors star Andre Iguodala.The original text has the characteristics of both biographical text and sports text.Based on the results of previous studies on translation compensation,the author adopts two compensation strategies:explicit compensation and implicit compensation according to the position and form of compensation.The former includes annotation inside and outside the text,while the latter covers four means:amplification,paraphrasing,specification and adaptation.Therefore,to reduce translation losses and reproduce the source text’s appearance as completely as possible,translation compensation has become an indispensable strategy.How to use different compensation means to make the target language readers have the same reading experience as the source language readers,reduce translation losses and better translate the biographies of sports stars is the focus of this study.The main content of the report is divided into five chapters:the first chapter is the task description,which introduces the text source,practical task and significance of this translation task;the second chapter is the translation process,including pre-translation,while-translation,and post-translation revision;the third chapter is literature review,including the studies on the translation of sports and biographical texts,as well as the study of translation compensation at home and abroad.The fourth chapter is the translation case analysis,which enumerates the application of translation compensation strategies in this practice,and makes an in-depth analysis combined with the source text and translation.The fifth chapter is the author’s work summary of this task.
