A Study Of C-E Translation Of National Discourse In Political Publicity Texts On Public Health Security

Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19,a global public health security event,the political publicity texts on public health security have become a new channel for the international community to know about China.However,the national discourse with Chinese characteristics in the source text is difficult for the target language readers to understand.Taking Nida’s functional equivalence theory as the guiding translation theory,this paper mainly uses literature-based and corpus-based analytical induction method,taking Fighting Covid-19:China in Action as the example to analyze the features of national discourse of political publicity texts on public health security,so as to dig out translation principles and measures for translating national discourse.This paper focuses on three problems.Firstly,the features of national discourse.Secondly,the translation principles of translating national discourse.Thirdly,the translation measures used in the translation of national discourse.This paper finds that the features of national discourse in Fighting Covid-19:China in Action are presented from three aspects:national word,national sentence,and national text.National word includes category words,four-character structures,abbreviations with numbers,words with metaphor and newly created words.National sentence includes serial verb sentences,subjectless sentences,and active sentences.National text is represented by the expression of orders,request for implementation,and the expectation for the future.To achieve high-quality translation,the author thinks faithfulness to the source text,adaptation to the target language readers,nation priority and distinction between internal and external community can be used as the translation principles to guide national discourse in C-E translation of political publicity texts on public health security.After taking the diversities between Chinese and English in language and culture into consideration,the translator chooses different translation measures in national word,sentence,and text.In terms of the national word,translation measures like omission,conversion,addition,free translation,and literal translation are use d.In terms of the translation of national sentence,subject adding,voice changing,long sentence dividing,complex sentence restructuring are applied.Ellipsis,reference,and substitution are obtained to translate national text.The C-E translation study of national discourse in political publicity texts on public health security is rarely involved in other related studies.This paper not only enriches the study of political publicity and national discourse but also provides a new perspective for their study.
