| In the information age, websites serve as a media for cultural exchanges between China and other countries. As a national-level academic association of artificial intelligence in China,CAAI is in an urgent need to translate its Chinese websites into English to promote international academic communication.Peter Newmark’s translation theory, including semantic translation and communicative translation, fulfills the two main aims of translation for achieving accuracy and efficiency. It aims to convey the full meaning of the original text, and achieve the communicative effect of translation at the same time. The theory inspires the author to use it as a guideline to complete the CAAI website translation tasks. This translation report mainly introduces how the author employed different translation techniques such as omission, paraphrase, conversion, addition and division to address the difficulties encountered in the CAAI translation project.Furthermore, the applicability of Newmark’s translation theory in the Chinese to English website translation was proved. In the translation project, semantic translation was adopted to deal with the culture-loaded words and terminologies. In communicative translation, omission was used to remove redundant information and highlight the main point of a text.Paraphrasing and addition are employed to explain implicit expressions and convey the full meaning of the ST.Conversion was adopted to present a communicative and idiomatic translation.Division appeared in splitting long Chinese sentences and contributed to a more reader-friendly translation. Some suggestions were listed in the report, hoping to provide references on achieving a better C-E website translation. |
