The Chinese Proficiency Test(HSK)is an international standardized test that focuses on the ability of Chinese candidates who are not a first language to use Chinese for communication in life,study and work.Due to the rapid development of China,the number of Chinese language learners has continued to increase.In recent years,the number of foreigners who have come to China to study in China due to professional development needs has increased significantly.Every international student in China must take a Chinese proficiency test to test their Chinese,whether their level meets the requirements for entry into professional learning and the requirements for graduation.For Chinese learners,preparation for the exam is a challenging,complex,and dynamic process.It focuses on the learner and presents complex and diverse influencing factors,reflecting the learner’s autonomous learning and self-adjustment.Individual differences also reflect the relationship between HSK exams and course learning,as well as learners’ difficulties in listening,reading,writing,and learning strategies.Studying this process is of great significance to Chinese teaching,HSK exams,and learner ability development.Based on this knowledge,from the perspective of HSK candidates,this paper uses a combination of participatory observation,questionnaire surveys and in-depth interviews to fully investigate and analyze the process of preparing HSK for international students.The study found that the influential factors for the preparation of HSK for international students in China are complex and diverse.The individual differences of foreign students affect the choice of test strategies and methods,the effect of the test on Chinese learning,self-efficacy,and the development of autonomous learning ability.At this level,because language learning is a non-linear,complex,and dynamically changing process,the relationship between HSK scores and individual influencing factors is sometimes accidental.Based on quantitative data analysis and qualitative text analysis,this paper builds an autonomous learning model for HSK exams,and puts forward suggestions on the combination of exam-teaching in Chinese teaching,the use of the backwash effect of HSK exams,and learning methods for autonomous exam preparation.
