| With the number of researches on the ESL(English as a Second Language)increasing, the relationship between learning self-efficacy and English autonomous learning ability has gradually received more attention from the teachers as well as the linguists.Since learning self-efficacy is an intrinsic factor that affects English autonomous learning ability, more and more scholars are paying attention to the relationship between them. However,as can be found by literature review,in regard to the relationship between learning self-efficacy and English autonomous learning ability, most of the previous studies merely explore from the perspectives of the learning ability and the learning behavior in learning self-efficacy,while only a few tend to analyze in the viewpoint of the four dimensions of learning self-efficacy.One hundred and seven students from four majors in the second semester of freshman year in North China University of Science and Technology were randomly chosen for the research purpose. The data and information in the research were collected by means of interview and two sets of questionnaires. On this basis, the overall situation of freshmen’s learning self-efficacy and English autonomous ability, along with the relationship between these two factors are obtained.According to the results, freshmen’s learning self-efficacy and English autonomous ability are generally at lower level.Meanwhile, the measured values obtained through statistical algorithm are all below the average in Likert five-point scale, indicating that students’ learning self-efficacy and English autonomous ability are generally in lower level;there is significant difference between learning self-efficacy and English autonomous learning ability in aspects of gender, major and educational background;learning self-efficacy and English autonomous ability are in strong positive correlation as well as mutual influence.Based on the above research results, some suggestions on college English teaching are proposed.Figure 0;Table 33;Reference 76... |
