In order to explore the relationship between higher vocational students’ English autonomous learning ability and self-efficacy,as well its influence on academic achievement,the study,which is based on social cognitive and social learning theory,has adopted the methods of questionnaire and interviewing to make a research on the freshmen of non-English majors.The study focus on the situation of higher vocational students’ English autonomous learning ability and English learning self-efficacy,and it further studies the relationship between English autonomous learning ability,English learning self-efficacy and students’ academic performance.All data collected were processed by SPSS19.0 to make a descriptive statistical analysis,correlation analysis and one-way analysis of variance.The study shows that: First,higher vocational students have low self-efficacy and English autonomous learning ability is not high.Second,English autonomous learning ability and self-efficacy have positive correlation.Third,autonomous learning ability is positively correlated with academic achievements.Fourth,the English self-efficacy of higher vocational college students is positively correlated with their academic performance.Self-efficacy is an important individual emotional factor,which plays an essential role in the development of autonomous learning ability.So the author tries to put forward some strategies to enhance students’ self-efficacy to promote autonomous learning ability by setting appropriate goals to strengthen the motivation,guiding students to reasonable attribution,strengthening English learning strategies,setting appropriate models for students,guiding students to carry out correct self-evaluation and adjusting students’ academic moods.
