| Growing links within the petroleum industry fueled by the dynamism in international scientific and technological exchanges have placed more importance on the translation in this field.Translation regarding petroleum promotes the exchanges and development of the international petroleum technology,thus its role can not be ignored.In this report,based on offshore petroleum exploration material,the translator utilizes cases analyses to discuss the translation approaches of petroleum sci-tech texts under the guidance of translation variation theory.At lexical level,the approach of proper interpretation with explanatory notes is proposed in the translation of compound words,abbreviations and general words in petroleum terminology.At syntactic level,adaptation and compilation translation methods can be applied in the translation of long sentences and passive sentences to meet the reading habits of Chinese readers.At discourse level,the addition and adaptation approaches are recommended to add logical conjunctions as links between paragraphs,thereby making the expressions of the text more concise and compact.This translation practice reveals significant details about the characteristics and translation approaches of petroleum sci-tech texts.Moreover,this report,expected to enrich the application of the translation variation theory in petroleum sci-tech texts,will stand as an example for those aspiring translators. |
