A Report On The Revision Of The Codemao Python Textbook Series

From July 23,2020 to September 8,2020,the author worked as an intern in the International Business Department of Shenzhen Dianmao Technology Co.Ltd(commonly referred as Codemao),where most of her job was translation/localization and revision.The author has continued working as a part time reviser after the internship contract expired.Throughout the internship,the author revised the translated Python textbook series presented by the company,including Data Analysis and Visualization,Algorithms and Data Structures and Artificial Intelligence and Application,all compiled for high school students in targeted markets abroadBased on the "Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation"(CEA)framework first proposed by Li Changshuan and Lynette Shi Xiaojing and later officially formulated in Li’s How to Write a Translation Practice Report,this report analyzes problems that have emerged during revision,provides improved renderings of corresponding excerpts,and most importantly,elaborates on the thinking and reasons why the translation was flagged wrong and why these renderings were made.This report also briefly discusses the general ideas on translation of technical texts and the mode of collaboration among various parties involved in a translation project.The report consists of four parts.The first part is the introduction to the company,the texts,and the whole revision process in detail.The second part reviews necessary theories to build a relatively fledged CEA framework.The third is the main part,in which the author first gives a brief introduction to the analysis process,and then breaks down the examples lifted from revision practice,categorizes the mistranslations according to types of mistake,and assesses the translation under the CEA framework.In particular,the author also discussed the generalization of technical translation and the afterthought of this specific revision practice.The fourth part aims to further discuss the form of collaboration between translator and reviser and the possible cooperation model and share what the author has experienced and gained.
