Driven by the new curriculum reform,the English classroom teaching method has been well improved,but the homework design has not paid much attention.There are few works that specialize in English homework design.It’s very common that the front-line teachers put forward some views and opinions combined with their own teaching experience,but their views and opinions are lack of systematic theoretical support.Homework is an important link in the process of primary school English teaching,which not only affects teachers ’teaching,but also affects students’ learning An efficient homework design can reduce the burden on students,make students feel the fun of learning English,and make students have the pleasure of success.Therefore,in this background,it becomes very meaningful to study primary English homework and put propose corresponding solution strategies according to the existing problems.This study features students from 3-6 at S Elementary School.I use three methods including questionnaire survey,interview and work analysis.I investigate the current situation of English homework in primary schools from five perspectives of goal,difficulty,type,content and quantity of English homework.After investigation,I find the following problems in the homework design.Homework objectives are relatively reasonable,but have a lack of stratification.Homework difficulty is relatively moderate,but it lacks the difference.Homework type measures written practice but lacks diversity.Content emphasizes knowledge,but it is lack of connection and integrity.Time assignment is easy to conflict and it is lack of equilibrium.The reasons for these problems have the following aspects.First of all,the test-oriented pressure has become the main goal of homework,restricting the interest of English learning.Homework design is too unified and standardized,restricting students ’initiative and creativity.Homework is the same difficulty,ignoring the differences in students’abilities.The homework evaluation form is single,which fails to stimulate students ’cognitive experienceFor these issues,I present the following improvement strategies.Our school should clarify the homework requirements and improve the supervision mechanism.Our school should establish a homework test database and share teaching resources Our school should adhere to after-school care to reduce stress on parents.Teachers emphasize goal and optimize the understanding of homework purpose.Teachers can reasonably design the homework difficulty according to the course standards.Using multiple intelligence theory,homework content connects students ’actual life.Teachers should strive to enrich their homework types and give students the chance in their independent choice.Teachers should optimize the operation evaluation mechanism and improve the function and effectiveness of homework.
