| This paper focus on Ronald Egan’s research of Ci which includes the part of northern Song Dynasty in The Cambridge History of Chinese Literature,The Burdern of Female Talent: The Poet Li Qingzhao and Her History in China,and The Problem of Beauty: Aesthetic Thought and Pursuits in Northern Song Dynasty China.The paper will use the three books as research object,and analyze on Ronald Egan’s research on Song Ci from his overall view of Song Ci as well as his research on individual poets.The first part studies Ronald Egan ’s care for Song Ci as a whole,which is divided into three parts.First of all,Ronald Egan pays attention to the changes in the concept of Ci by the literati in the Song Dynasty.He explores the reasons why the early Song Ci was not taken seriously by the literati,analyzes the changes in the attitude of the poets towards Ci in different periods,and starts with the study from the aesthetic perspective and the subjective sentiment of Song Ci.Secondly,Ronald Egan focuses on the development of Ci Collection and Ci Theory.Through studying the rise of the compilation of Ci Collection,the early Huajian Collection,Yangchun Collection and other later Ci criticism,he explores the changes of the literati’s views on Ci at that time.Finally,Ronald Egan also pays attention to the stylistic features of Ci,focusing on the new changes of Ci style in Song Dynasty and the innovation of Ci writers’ writing techniques.The second part takes Li Qingzhao as the object of study and studies the Ci of Ronald Egan.First,Ronald Egan pays close attention to Li Qingzhao’s creative psychology.Through analyzing the social environment in which Li Qingzhao lived at that time,Ronald Egan tries to figure out Li Qingzhao’s views on creation,and draws the conclusion that Li Qingzhao attaches great importance to creation and longs to compete with male literati through creation.Ronald Egan analyzed the psychology of Li Qingzhao in different works through careful reading of the text,and drew a conclusion different from previous studies through careful consideration of words and phrases.Second,in the study of its word,Ronald Egan ’s refusal to its word completely as Li Qingzhao’s historical data record,in its words embodies the unique female perspective is analyzed,and its simple dabbled in term of the false problem,although there is no scientific way of the false,but Ronald Egan also points out its domestic scholars the false words.The third part is the summary and evaluation of the particularity of his research perspective on Song Ci.First,Ronald Egan in the study of ci poetry,has been focusing on the word for social,from the economic development,mass entertainment,social role and other parties to explore the social impact of words,this way of thinking,and embodies the Chinese ancient "comment the man and the world" as well as the concept of "literary history" in western literary theory,this research method will restore social background.It is helpful to study both individual Ci writers and Song Peams as a whole.At the same time,Ronald Egan ’s research on Song Ci has been focusing on the gender angle in Ci,combing the establishment and gradual improvement of the male gaze in Ci.Finally,the author compares his research on Song Ci with that of other English-speaking scholars to find out the characteristics of his research.Ronald Egan’s research on Song Ci has its own characteristics and value,but at the same time,it also has limitations.Domestic scholars need to take a cautious attitude towards Overseas Sinology. |
