This thesis takes Ronald Egan's The Problem of Beauty : Aesthetic Thought and Pursuits in Northern Song Dynasty China as its research object.The paper uses the method of text reading to comprehensively examine the research results.The main viewpoints and related research are showing the valuable research results obtained in the study of the aesthetic culture of the Northern Song Dynasty literati,summarizing the research focus and research methods of Egan,and refining the interpretation of related materials by Egan.At the same time,this paper takes a holistic view of the whole book,grasps the research methods of literary and cultural history based on this concept,revealing the aesthetics of the literati in Northern Song Dynasty.The applicability of cultural studies and its value and reference to the study of literary and cultural history.The paper is published in four parts.The introduction part mainly introduces the research object,and gives a macro overview of the research status of the domestic.On this basis,the research focus and method are put forward.The first chapter defines the concept of aesthetic and aesthetic culture,analyzes the theory of aesthetics,and introduces the multiple identities of literati in the historical and political environment of the Northern Song Dynasty.Based on this identity,the literati The group has demonstrated new ideas and interesting choices in its literary creations and cultural activities,focusing on its “anxiety” in the process.Egan mainly discussed the new aesthetic psychology and taste formed by the Northern Song Dynasty literati.This aesthetic orientation influenced the aesthetic atmosphere of the whole society,which in turn affected the choice of literati's creative themes,genres and styles.The second chapter combs the new aesthetic field and cultural activities opened up by the Northern Song Dynasty literati,which includes the inscriptions,the appreciation of flowers and trees,the collection of calligraphy and painting,the writing of poetry and the criticism criteria of the words.As a new world opened up in the Song Dynasty,this daily aesthetic activity reflects the enthusiastic pursuit of art by the Northern Song Dynasty scholars.Through these artistic activities,the author explores the changes in the aesthetic pursuit of the Northern Song Dynasty literati,and examines the literary activities and the artistic activities behind them in the narration and commentary of literary history,and the influence on the literati's spiritual content.Linking literature with the transformation of traditional ways of thinking,linking with the development of art fields such as calligraphy,linking the literati group's pursuit of beauty with social acceptance and aesthetic taste,exploring the cultural activities of the city class in the new art field.On the basis of the first two chapters,the third chapter further deepens the research of Egan.The pursuit of beauty in the various fields in the Northern Song Dynasty challenges and subverts the traditional paradigm.The new ideological trend and aesthetic taste have realized the renewal of literary ideas and influenced the formation of literati independence consciousness.The diversified literary concept influenced the aesthetic orientation of the Northern Song Dynasty literati and the value judgment of literary creation.The self-realization of the subject and the traditional ethical dogma merged in this process,providing a new aesthetic paradigm and effective reference for future generations.
