| The thesis is an English-Chinese translation report.The source text is selected from the English product instruction of ISDIN,a Spanish cosmeceutical brand.ISDIN product instructions mainly include hard information such as product name,efficacy,benefits,use methods,ingredients,and also include some evocative promotional slogans.The text is highly functional and purposeful.The language features of the text are mainly characterized by the widespread use of terms,compound words,imperative sentences,and elliptical sentences.According to the characteristics of the source text,under the guidance of the Skopos Theory,the translator translates the original text under the three principles of the Skopos Theory in the translation process,namely the Skopos rule,the fidelity rule,and the coherence rule.The translation is based on the expected function of the translation,which is to provide consumers with product information and promote products as the starting point,thus make the best selection of translation methods.This practice report analyzes the translation of terms,compound words,imperative sentences,and elliptical sentences in the source text.The analysis shows that for the translation of cosmeceutical terms,translators should adopt the literal translation method to ensure the accuracy of terms.For the translation of compound words which exist in the name of the product,translators should concern the expected function of the translation and apply free translation method according to the specific content of the source text,such as product ingredients,core technology,and product effects.Whereas,if the simple compound words have had an equivalent expression in the target text,the literal translation will be the preference.For the translation of imperative sentences and elliptical sentences,translators should flexibly use translation approaches such as amplification,adaptation,combination,and syntactic linearity.Based on Skopos theory,this thesis aims to analyze the translation methods adopted in the translation of lexical and syntactic level of ISDIN skin care instructions.It is hoped that this practice report can provide references and inspiration for similar text translation. |
