Abstract/Summary:
With the deepening of economic reform and overseas exchange, more and more foreignproducts have landed the Chinese market. Thus there comes an increasing need forproducts instruction translation. However, in our country, the research on instructiontranslation is relatively weak and we are in want of a systematic theory to guide thetranslation practice.Products instruction is a text with high utility, including products introduction, productsingredients, using procedures, basic functions, etc.. Its main function is to introduce andadvertise the product. The English instruction usually adopts a lot of technical terms, withwords chosen accurately and succinctly. Most of the sentences in English instruction areimperative sentences and passive sentences. This thesis uses the translation of User Manualof a radar locator produced by Valentine Research, Inc. as the case study, analyses thetranslation principals and strategies of instructions from the perspective of the Skopostheory. It is hoped that the major findings of research can benefit the future researchers inthis field.
