A Report On E-C Translation Of Envisioning The National Health Care Quality Report(Chapter Two)

Since the reform and opening up,great progress has been made in medical and health care services in China.However,we are aware that there are deficiencies in China’s medical and health care services.Therefore,it is necessary to learn the advanced experience of foreign medical and health care services in order to provide important reference value for domestic medical and health undertakings.The report is written based on the E-C translation practice of Envisioning the National Health Care Quality Report(Chapter Two),which is written by Margarita P.Hurtado,Elaine K.Swift,and Janet M.Corrigan from the Committee on the National Quality Report on Health Care Delivery in the United States.It seeks to use the most appropriate and natural target language to reproduce the source language under the guidance of Eugene A.Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory.There are five chapters in this report.Chapter One introduces the task background,the translation process,the significance and the structure of this report.Chapter Two gives a concise introduction to the book Envisioning the National Health Care Quality Report and its writer.Chapter Three elaborates three phrases and four principles of Functional Equivalence Theory.In Chapter Four,the problems encountered in the translation process are presented,and Functional Equivalence Theory is applied to solving these problems at lexical,syntactic and discourse levels.Chapter Five is the conclusion about this report,including major findings and limitations.This report provides theoretical and practical guidance for the translation of medical-related books.It is hoped that this book can attract more Chinese readers and relevant translation experience can be offered to other translators.
