With the increasingly close cultural exchanges between countries around the world,translation has become an indispensable bridge.Fiction is a language art which is descriptions of specific characters,events,scenes,and environments.It is not restricted by real people or by time and space.The author expresses personal feelings and opinions through various artistic expressions.This translation practice report is selected from the novel “Coming Home” by American woman writer Patricia Wilson.The first and second chapters of the novel are used as the source text of this report.The first two chapters of the novel have rich content and beautiful language.A variety of descriptive methods were used to create some vivid characters.Character descriptions are the key point of this translation practice.Communicative translation theory focuses on the translation effect,emphasizes the expressive force and readability of the translation and pays attention to the understanding of the target language readers and.The translation of character descriptions in novels pursues same goal.Therefore,the translator applies Newmark’ s communicative translation theory.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the description of the Coming Home translation project,which mainly includes the research background,research significance and the project report structure.The second chapter is translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation stage and post-translation proofreading.The third chapter is an introduction to Newmark’s communicative translation theory.The fourth chapter is case analysis,which is the most important part of the translation practice report.The chapter analyzes character descriptions in the novel guided by communicative translation theory.The fifth chapter summarizes some shortcomings and suggestions of the report. |
