| The source text of the translation report is selected from the novel Coming Home for Christmas.Its writer,Patricia Scanlan,is one of best-selling novelists in Ireland.In her novels,the writer has written how to face difficulties of marriage and love,which reflects the developments and changes in women’s inner world.In Coming Home for Christmas,it mainly describes a heart-warming story about the Alison’s family.They learn to forgive each other when they spend hard days.The topic of this novel is marriage,love and family as well.The translator selected chapters from the ninth to the thirteenth as the source text.In the source text,there are many dialogues.And it is a crucial factor for dialogues to translate speech act verbs well.The number of speech act verb is 358 in total in this novel.In this report,the translator divides these verbs into three types: a single verb,verb-adverb,and verb-prepositional phrase.In the process of translation,different reasons will influence the quality of translation.In various contexts,different speakers use different speech act verbs.In the part of case analysis,I mainly analyze speech act verb as direct speech in dialogues.The translation will be different in accordance with different contexts.Therefore,the translator uses different translation methods according to the specific context.In addition,a good translation needs to be refined repeatedly.Through this paper,the translator hopes to provides more ideas about the translation of speech act verbs for other translators. |
