| Science education in primary school can cultivate children’s inquiry-based thinking and innovation ability.Since problems as the lack of positive inquiry tasks and teaching resources exist in primary science education in China,it is necessary for us to learn advanced science education systems and methods from foreign countries.The translation material of this report is a social science text,entitled by Inquiry Teaching and Learning:Forms,Approaches,and Embedded Views Within and Across Cultures,the fifth chapter of the Quality Teaching in Primary Science Education Cross-cultural Perspectives published in 2017.Under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory,the translator adopts extension and addition at lexical level,applies conversion and restructuring at the syntactic level to smoothly convey the original information to the target readers,and analyses the source text from the aspect of lexical cohesion and semantic coherence at the discourse level.The translator hopes to provide references for solving problems in translating specific concepts and long sentences of social science texts.Through the translation practice and the writing of this report,the author gains the following inspirations:(1)The translation of conceptual words should base on the full understanding of the context,text style and its semantic field;(2)Division and restructuring can be introduced into the translation of long and complex sentences;(3)The quality of social science text translation depends on translators’ in-depth understanding of the differences between the two languages and cultures. |
