The source text of this translation practice is an excerpt from the documentary novel The Big Picture: The Fight for the Future of Movies written by Ben Fritz in 2019.The works focuses on the development history of Hollywood and reveals the backstage drama of the movie industry.Based on Jef Verschueren’s adaptation theory,the translation and its report explore the translation methods of culture-loaded words and long sentences in order to provide ideas on how to achieve textual coherence.The translation report consists of five chapters.The first chapter is an introduction of the task,which briefly introduces the author of the book,the source text and significance of the report.The second chapter is the translation process,including the preparation before translation and proofreading after translation.The third chapter is the theoretical framework that guides the translation practice,namely adaptation theory.The fourth chapter is the case analysis,based on the variability,negotiation,and adaptation of language,in which the translator respectively analyzes specific translation examples from four aspects: contextual correlates of adaptability,structural objects of adaptability,dynamics of adaptability,and salience of the adaption processes.Finally,the last Chapter is the conclusion which summarizes the main achievements and limitations of the task.
