| The report is based on the translation of excerpt chapters from Shakespeare and the Origins of English written by Neil Rhodes.It is an extensive history book published by Oxford University Press in 2004.This book tries to trace the origins of English in certain aspects of the educational regime,focusing specially on Shakespeare’s role in the origins of the subject,and is of great research value for the translation of texts on the origins of English subject.Supported by Jef Verschueren’s adaptation theory,the report discusses the guidance of adaptation theory to translation practice.It expounds the enlightenment of adaptation theory on translation practice from following perspectives: adaptation of language structure,adaptation of context,dynamic adaptation and translators’ degrees of salience.Through this translation practice,first of all,I have a deeper understanding of the origins and development of the English discipline,accumulate some strategies and skills of historical text translation,and understand the role and responsibility of translators.Secondly,I have a more accurate master of how adaptation theory guides translation practice.On the one hand,from the level of micro language structure,when dealing with vocabulary,sentence,grammar,text and other translation issues,it is crucial to conform to the language structure of the target language when recoding language and take into account the grammatical rules,language habits and stylistic features of the target language to ensure that the translation is smooth and clear and easy to understand.On the other hand,from a macro point of view,the reason why it is necessary to adapt to the context of the source language is because with the help of the cultural background and communicative context of the source language,the meaning and deep implication of the original language can be thoroughly caught,so as to lay a good foundation for subsequent translation expression.In addition,it is also essential to fully mobilize the subjectivity of translators and give full play to the translators’ awareness.On the basis of adapting to the language structure and context of the source and target languages,the influence of factors should also be considered such as national culture,historical background,social system and readers’ cognition.In this report,I analyze the source text from both micro and macro levels,discuss translation methods and techniques used from different analysis perspectives with specific examples,hoping to improve translation ability and at the same time providing reference for future translation practice. |
