This is a translation practice report on a history text,Korea's Fight for Freedom,written by a British reporter Frederick Arthur McKenzie in 1920.There is no official published Chinese version of this book currently.The translator selects chapter 5 and chapter 6 as the source text.This part mainly describes the Japanese dominance in Korea and the Korean people's resistance against Japanese aggression.This translation practice can help to enrich the Chinese historical materials related to the modern history of the Korean Peninsula.The translator hopes that this translation practice can not only improve the translator's translation ability,but also meet the target language readers' demand for text reading.In this translation practice,the translator takes Eugene Nida's “functional equivalence” theory as the guiding theory,that is,the equivalence between the source text and the translated text is not only reflected at the lexical and syntactic level,but more importantly at the semantic and stylistic level.In the translation process,the translator applies specific translation methods and strategies according to different translation needs.First,in terms of vocabulary,the most important aim is to achieve the same function of the target text as that of the source text.The primary task is to make the target text readers understand the text meaning accurately.Second,in terms of the sentence,after understanding the semantic meaning of the original sentences and clarifying the logic relationship of the sentences,the translator deals with the text through different translation methods such as addition and subtraction,recombination and splitting,and voice conversion.In the whole translation process,the translator tries to reduce the “translationese” as much as possible and make the translated version read smoothly.Through this practice,the translator realizes that the translation practice is inseparable from the guidance of translation theory,from the translator's acquaintance of the source text author and the background knowledge,and from the in-depth grasp of the source language and the target language.
