With the continuous enhancement of China’s cultural soft power,many excellent domestic documentaries have gradually gone abroad,enabling an increasing number of foreign audiences to understand China.The documentary Shared Future briefly introduces the origin and development of the Silk Road,as well as the formation and development of the Belt and Road Initiative.In order to promote the spread of Chinese culture and the promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative,this documentary is translated into English so that more foreign audiences can listen to China’s history and understand the Belt and Road initiative.This paper is a report based on the subtitle translation practice of the documentary Shared Future.This report explores subtitle translation based on the lexical and syntactic aspects of Functional Equivalence Theory.In addition,considering the nature of subtitles,the writer also analyzes the translation from the characteristics of subtitles.This practice report aims to share the experience gained from documentary subtitle translation and provide some reference on the documentary translation under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,so to as to enable more foreign friends understand Chinese culture and history.With the strategy of going global,the writer wishes more and more translated Chinese documentary will be introduced to foreign countries.
