The source text of the translator’s work is extracted from Lawrence Wright’s book Twins: And What They Tell Us about Who We Are,which explores many twin studies and their results to analyze the impact of heredity and environment on human beings. This translation report is divided into four parts, introduction, analysis of the source text, difficulties in translation and solutions and conclusion.Under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory, the translator used different translation methods to tackle the various translation difficulties she encountered.Specifically, for terminology and polysemous words, the translator adopted three translation methods: extension, annotation and diction;to translate the complex sentences in the source text, the translator adopted four major methods: sequential translation, splitting, restructuring, amplification and omission;for parenthesis, methods of putting the parentheses in the front, embedding and using brackets were applied. As a translator,it is necessary not only to grasp and convey the meaning of the source text accurately, but also to reproduce the meaning in a proper way in the target language.
