An English-Chinese Translation Report On Chapter Iv Of An Environmental History Of Great Britain:from 10,000 Years Ago To The Present

This E-C translation report is based on the fourth chapter(Closed and Open Systems:AD 550 to AD 1700)of An Environmental History of GREAT BRITAIN: From 10,000 Years Ago to the Present(written by I.G.Simmons).It discusses the environmental change and the integration of human,nature and culture on the island of Great Britain in this period,and describes the transformation and protection of the environment by the ancients from the perspective of anthropology,so as to reflect on this history.Commissioned by the Social Science Academic Press(China),this translation project was jointly translated by the author and another translator.According to source text’s features,the author has chosen a Model for Translation-Oriented Text Analysis and Intertextuality as the theoretical guidance of this practice.And the ST will be analyzed from three aspects: extratextual factors,intratextual factors and intertextuality,then the corresponding translation methods will be summarized.Strategies such as annotation,literal translation,free translation,domestication,linearity and reversion embody target text with the standard of “complete and accurate in texts,fluent in words,and correct in terms”.The report includes introduction,process description,case analysis and summary(four chapters).The implications of this academic text translation are as follows:(1)a detailed and comprehensive analysis of ST is necessary;(2)diverse translation theories and methods can be used for different texts;(3)writing style and professional terms should be unified for the joint translation project as well as objectiveness,faithfulness and formalness of academic texts should be followed.
