Sidney Licht,M.D.of the New York Academy of Medicine and also an early advocate and historian of occupational therapy The text selected for this translation practice report is Music in Medicine completed by Dr.Licht at the New York Academy of Medicine in 1946,and compiled in a book first published in 2022.The selected book contains 11 chapters with abundant academic knowledge,including a great deal of psychological and philosophical content in addition to musical and medical knowledge;furthermore,it also explores the possibility and feasibility of music therapy from two aspects: the history of music and types of music therapy.The text is a typical academic text combined with rich academic knowledge.The text selected for this practical report contains numerous examples that provide effective information from a professional perspective,and the language inside is logical,professional and readable,which contains expertise in clinical medicine,psychiatry,philosophy and psychology that is of high academic value.In addition,the author Licht has quoted a large number of Chinese and Western folk tales,allusions and quotations that cannot be traced back,making the whole process of translation more difficult.Therefore,the examination and study of the quotations,a variety of stories and allusions have become the focus and difficulty of the whole translation practice report.In the whole,this report mainly summarizes the prominent intertextual features in the text,and the most prominent features in the paper lie in four aspects,which are divided into quotation and allusion in explicit intertextuality,genre and theme in constructive intertextuality.The former is based on professor Luo Xuanmin’s classification,and the latter is based on Fairclough’s theory of constructive intertextuality.On this basis,the connotations of the four classifications are discussed and analyzed in this report.In addition,the vital and difficult points encountered in the process of translation are also discussed on the basis of the four classifications,as well as the corresponding treatment methods and solutions.All in all,the purpose of this paper is to deepen the understanding of intertextuality to inform and experience the reproduction of intertextuality.Meanwhile,also to further understand the feasibility,relevant history and future development of music therapy through the translation and study of Dr.Licht’s book,and to provide references for modern scholars studying the development of music medicine therapy,as well as to offer effective suggestions and references for future practitioners in translating the same type of text.
