A Report On The Translation Of The American Dream-for Men Only? Gender,Immigration,and The Assimilation Of Israelis In The United States(Chapters 8-9)

This is an English-Chinese translation report on chapters 8-9 of the book: The American Dream—For Men Only? Gender,Immigration,and the Assimilation of Israel in the United States by Israeli scholar Lilach Lev Ari.The eighth chapter mainly elaborates the reasons and time of American Israeli immigrants to their homeland in the gender aspect since the 1970 s.The ninth chapter briefly summarizes the reasons for the differences in gender,economic assimilation and cultural assimilation among Israeli immigrants in the United States.According to Reiss’ s text typology theory,this book belongs to the category of informative text whose main feature is based on transmitting information,emphasizing the authenticity and accuracy of the content.In this translation report,the translator introduces the background information of the book,as well as the purpose and significance of translation.In the part of the report,guided by Catherina Reiss’ s text typology theory,the translator takes a large number of exa mples to illustrate how to accurately convey the meaning and highlight the logical relationship in the book by addition,part of speech conversion,literal translation and free translation,splitting,reorganization and other methods at the lexical level,sentence level and textual level.In this translation report,the translator deeply realized the importance and necessity of understanding the background knowledge of the text.At the same time,the translator has a deeper understanding of the textual features and the translation strategies and methods of informative texts,and the ability of English-Chinese translation,especially for long sentences,has also been improved to some extent.However,there is still room for improvement in my translation,and the analysis ability of the original syntax needs to be strengthened.
