Beer,with its low price and rich taste,has became a national drink all over the streets of the Britain since its inception.Unlike ordinary food,beer has strong social attributes,which "overflows" the food range and becomes an important tool for British to entertain and socialize.The development of the beer industry has an important impact for country’s political,social and economic activities.Therefore,this article aims to start from the perspective of economic and social history,with the beer industry as the main body in the 17 th and 18 th centuries,and explore its impact on the social development of the British transition period.This paper consists of four parts.The first part describes the general situation of beer industry.In the early modern period,hops introduced to British society,it not only made the breakthrough on the technology of beer industry,and had a beer and ale’s product differentiation,so as to derive the first change of the beer industry,respectively was: the technology innovation,the change of industrial structure,the standardization of brewery staff management,these changes indicated that the beer industry revolution.The second part discusses the consumption of beer.It shows the overall trend of beer consumption in modern Britain and its relationship with the formation of British consumer society through the consumption places and consumers.During this period,the scale of beer consumption places in Britain was constantly expanding,and the business mode was becoming more and more formal.Moreover,the location distribution was dominated by customers’ demands.The basic functions were not limited to beer consumption,but developed into a multi-functional place for providing food,accommodation and leisure activities.The consumer group appeared the class level difference,no longer limited to the lower class.The third part expounds the domestic and foreign trade of beer,mainly from the domestic trade and overseas trade.Among them,the products of overseas trade were more special,which needed to withstand long-term transportation turbulence and temperature changes.The time of overseas market development was also relatively lagging behind,which was inseparable from the trade policy pursued by the country.The fourth part summarizes the influence of beer industry.The tax on alcohol in Britain was an important part of the national tax.The development of beer industry had increased the national revenue.The continued growth in beer consumption had boosted the status of places where beer was consumed and boosted Britain’s drinking culture.The gradual expansion of the overseas beer trade had further promoted the process of free trade in Britain.
