| With the acceleration of globalization, all walks of life in our country are paying more and more attention to keeping in line with the international standards, including the educational world.Primary and secondary schools actively help students learn foreign languages, broaden their horizons and promote all-round growth through international exchange.Publicity material is an important tool for schools to introduce themselves to the outside world, and it is a business card handed out to potential cooperative schools abroad. In the process of translation,in addition to paying attention to the accuracy of information conveyed,we should not neglect the effect of publicity and adjust the processing methods according to the characteristics of different parts. The author of this thesis holds that Peter Newmark’s translation theory, especially the theory of text classification, semantic translation and communicative translation can be used in C-E translation of publicity materials of middle schools.Semantic translation theory and communicative translation theory are the most important parts of Newmark’s translation theory, which have their respective characteristics and scope of application.Based on the publicity materials of Yingkou Senior High School, this paper discusses the use of semantic translation from two aspects: to be faithful to the meaning of the original text and to retain the characteristics of expression. Then it discusses the use of communicative translation from three aspects: infiltration of reasonable explanation;adjustment of sentence structures;use of vivid rhetoric.Besides, the two methods can be embodied in the same part for natural and objective rendition. The study shows that the theories of semantic translation and communicative translation have different emphases and different translation effects. But they are not antagonistic.Instead, they complement each other. In translation, appropriate translation methods are chosen according to specific conditions.Flexible application of the two translation methods can reach expected expression effect, achieving the purpose of translation. |
