This translation practice is selected from Mindful L2 Teacher Education, coauthored by Karen E.Johnson and Paula R.Golombek.This book is an academic monograph published by Routledge Press in 2016,which made a systematic research on the education and professional development of L2 teachers. It is characterized by frequent emergence of professional terms and complex sentence patterns, and with strong language logic. The book contains about 80,000 words and consists of 10 chapters. This translation practice includes chapter seven "Developing Pedagogical Content Knowledge" and chapter eight "Reimagining Teacher Identity-In-Activity".According to Newmark’s classification of text types, this selected book mainly belongs to informative text which contains relatively little expressive text.Informative texts are intended to emphasize the informative function of language and reflect objective facts. Its language is not personal. Therefore, the translation should not only be faithful to the source text, but also adapt to the target readers’ way of thinking and expression habits. The translator adopts Nida’s functional equivalence theory as theoretical guidance, and uses communicative translation strategy as the main strategy, and supplemented by semantic translation strategy. In the process of translation practice,in order to achieve the effect of functional equivalence in the target text, the translation practice is divided into three levels to analyze the translation techniques. At the lexical level, the selection of word meaning and conversion are applied.Syntactically, sentence division, sentence inversion and voice conversion are used.At the discourse level, translation technique of coherence and cohesion are used. Finally, the translator analyzed the gains and limitations of the whole translation process.Through this translation practice, the translator has made much progress and gained a profound understanding on combination of translation theories and practice, and also gained new recognition of teaching, thus laying a good foundation for future translation and teaching work.
