The new curriculum reform advocates independent,cooperative and inquiry learning,which puts forward higher requirements for junior high school English classroom teaching mode.Situational teaching method,by creating vivid scenes,enables new language points to be displayed and practiced through meaningful situational activities,which meets the requirements of English teaching for context and conforms to the concept orientation of the new curriculum reform and new curriculum standards.Obviously,it is worthy of in-depth understanding.At present,the research mainly focuses on the specific application of situational teaching method in different language skills and teaching contents,while the investigation of its application status is relatively small.Therefore,this study takes the application of situational teaching method in junior high school English classroom teaching as a breakthrough.The research questions are as follows:(1)What is the overall use of situational teaching method in junior high school English classroom teaching?(2)What is the overall usage of different scenarios creation methods ?(3)What is the specific application of situational teaching method in different teaching links,language skills and teaching contents?(4)From the perspective of students’ acceptance,what is the application effect of situational teaching method in junior high school English classroom teaching?The main research methods of this study include questionnaire survey and classroom observation.From the perspective of teachers,31 junior high school English teachers in K city were taken as subjects to investigate the application status of situational teaching method.Classroom observation takes Grade 7 and Grade 8 of H Middle School as observation objects,which is used to verify and supplement the results of questionnaire survey.It is found that:(1)Situational teaching method is relatively popular in junior high school English classroom teaching;(2)The development of modern educational technology has optimized the means of creating scenes;(3)The application of situational teaching activities tends to be stereotyped;(4)The application of situational teaching method in junior high school English classroom teaching needs to be deepened;(5)Students’ acceptance of situational teaching method is good.The above findings show that the application of situational teaching method in junior high school English classroom teaching has certain value,but there is still room for improvement.In order to give full play to the role of situational teaching,first of all,teachers should attach importance to situational teaching and strengthen the study of relevant theoretical knowledge.Secondly,teachers should apply modern educational technology scientifically to assist situational teaching.At the same time,teachers should cultivate their own consciousness of innovation,carry out diversified situational activities and avoid the modeling of scenario creation.Finally,teachers should always pay attention to students’ dominant position in situational classroom,and be the support of students’ situational expression.
