As China’s educational reform deepens,an increasing number of people have realized that the traditional educational ideas and methods are difficult to meet the change and development of the times,and the teaching mode of rote copying and learning is difficult to stimulate students’ interest in learning,which is totally different from the essence of education.English should be taught in situations and learned in situations.Without situations,it is difficult for English teaching to stimulate students’ interest in learning and is not conducive to the transformation of knowledge into ability.Therefore,in English teaching,teachers should create all the situations.Situational teaching has now become a teaching method of humanistic education.Based on Constructivism and Situational cognitive theory,this thesis endeavors to explore the effectiveness of the application of Situational teaching method in English reading teaching in junior high school students.The subjects investigated are selected from junior 3 in a junior high school in Lanzhou,and the total is 101.All the students are equally divided into two classes.One is the controlled class in which the reading class was delivered in traditional teaching method,the method that teaching students by boring word for word,while the other is the experimental class in which the reading class was taught thtough situational teaching method.The pre-test,post-test and questionnaire are used to collect the data and then the SPSS is used to analyze the data.The two questions below are going to be answered in this research:1.Can the situational teaching approach improve students’ interest in English learning?2.Does the situational teaching improve students’ English language abilities?Having analyzed the empirical study,the author found the following conclusions:compared with the traditional reading teaching ways,situational teaching method was more effective in junior high school English reading teaching.This thesis is divided into five parts.The first part is an introduction of the background information of the study such as the current situation of English teaching in junior high school and the educational situation and environment in contemporary society,of the purpose and significance of the study;the second comes the literature review of the whole thesis,which includes what the situational teaching is,theoretical basis of situational teaching method,and the principles of situational teaching;it is followed by theoretical foundation which contains three elements-theoretical basis of situational teaching,functions of situational teaching method,and application of situational English teaching in junior high school;then,it comes to the research methodology part.In this part,research questions,research subjects and research instruments are well stated;the last part is about the research outcomes including teaching procedure-reading teaching design and grammar teaching design,followed by a conclusion. |
