Vocabulary plays an important part in English learning.However,limited by the traditional teaching methods,English vocabulary teaching has become a common problem for both teachers and students.Therefore,it is urgent to change the teaching methods of vocabulary.In recent years,situational teaching method has been applied in teaching practice.It means that teachers actively create situations which are close to students’ real life.Based on the constructivism learning theory,Krashen’s input hypothesis theory and cognitive learning theory,this paper aims to explore whether this teaching method is effective and feasible in vocabulary teaching.In the process of this paper,the author uses two parallel classes as the object of this study.One class was used as an experimental class,using situational teaching method;the other class was used as a control class,using conventional vocabulary teaching method.Through comparing students’ scores in the pre-test and post-test,the effectiveness and necessity of using situational teaching method in vocabulary teaching is discussed.In addition,through questionnaire surveys and interviews,the author has a better understanding of the current situation of vocabulary teaching in junior high school of grade one,teachers’ and students’ views and attitudes towards vocabulary teaching,so as to discuss the advantages of situational vocabulary teaching and what problems should be paid attention to when using situational vocabulary teaching.The results show that we have realized student-centered teaching mode by using the situational teaching method,which stimulates students’ interest in learning,inspires their thinking,promotes the development of their comprehensive language ability,and improves their scores in English tests.In addition,situational teaching method not only promotes the development of students’ ability,but also promotes the development of teachers’ ability,realizing that teaching and learning benefit each other.Situational teaching plays an important role in vocabulary teaching.The extensiveapplication of situational teaching method in vocabulary of grade one is conducive to the continuous improvement of students’ vocabulary ability.
