Vocabulary is the basis of language and plays an indispensable role in English teaching.In China,students’ interest in English vocabulary learning is not high,which leads to unsatisfactory teaching effect.With the rapid development of modern education and information technology,multimod al theory has an impact on the teaching field,and then it has attracted extensive attention in English vocabulary teaching.This thesis presents the findings of a study about the application of multimodal mode to the teaching of professional English vocabulary in a secondary vocational school.The study focuses on the two questions below:(1)Can the multimodal teaching mode improve secondary vocational school students’ professional English vocabulary achievement?(2)Are there any changes in students’ at titudes towards professional English vocabulary learning at the end of the experiment?The subjects of this study were Grade 3 students majoring in automobile utilization in a secondary vocational school in Changde City.Eighty students from two parallel classes,which had 40 students respectively,were chosen as experimental class and control class randomly.In the 2.5 month long period of the study,the traditional teaching method of professional English vocabulary was adopted in the control class,while the multimodal teaching mode was adopted in the experimental class.Pre-test and post test were conducted respectively to collect data;Questionnaire survey was conducted in the two classes to check their changed attitudes towards professional English vocabulary learning in pre and post the experiment.Data were collected and analyzed with SPSS25.The results show that:(1)Multimodal teaching mode can improve students’ achievement of professional English vocabulary.(2)At the end of the experiment,students have more positive attitudes towards professional English vocabulary learning.Moreover,a significant correlation between students’ vocabulary acquisition outcome and multimodal teaching mode is identified.Multimodal teaching mode is more conducive to students’ English vocabulary acquisition.Meanwhile,multimodal teaching mode can help students keep more positive attitude s towards professional English vocabulary learning.This study proves that the application of multimodal teaching mode in English vocabulary teaching has a certain value,and also lays a foundation for future researchers in the application in classroom teaching.
