| Vocabulary,one of the most important elements of English learning,is positively correlated with students’ English proficiency.China attaches great importance to the strategic role of vocational education,calls on deeper reform,and creates innovative teaching methods of vocational education.Most secondary vocational students have poor linguistic mastering and low interest in learning English vocabulary.They haven’t developed effective learning strategies and the capacity for independent learning,so they receive low scores on English tests.This research attempts to apply game-based teaching in vocabulary teaching in an effort to improve the situation of English vocabulary teaching in secondary vocational schools.By adopting game-based teaching approach as the theoretical basis,this thesis selected two classes majoring in preschool education in a vocational school in Liaoning Province and conducted a contrastive analysis on the application of game-based teaching in vocabulary teaching.Here are three research questions: 1.What are the effects of the application of gamebased teaching approach on students’ interest in secondary vocational school English vocabulary teaching? 2.What are the effects of the application of game-based teaching approach on students’ academic performance in secondary vocational school English vocabulary teaching? 3.What are the effects of the application of game-based teaching approach on students’ ability and strategies in secondary vocational school English vocabulary teaching?The questionnaires in this thesis were used to analyze the interest of students before and after the experiment;the pre-test and post-test were used to compare how students’ test scores changed before and after the experiment;interviews were conducted to examine the effects of the application of game-based teaching on students’ learning strategies and ability.Moreover,the SPSS data analysis was used to analyze and process the corresponding data.Based on the above methods,the research questions are answered respectively.Research findings suggest that game-based teaching can boost motivation in English vocabulary learning,enhance students’ learning ability,form appropriate learning strategies and improve their English vocabulary scores.In addition,the research discussed the pedagogical implications and limitations of game-based teaching used in secondary vocational schools.It is expected that this research can provide illumination for secondary vocational teachers and create new ideas for innovation in English vocabulary teaching in secondary vocational schools. |
