A Study On The Artistic Features Of The Picture Book Children’s Library In The Republic Of China

From the 1920 s to the outbreak of the War of Resistance against Japan,it was the period when the reading momentum of the Republic of China was most prosperous.Shanghai has benefited from its superior geographic location and the prosperity of industry and commerce.It has assembled elites from all over the world to form a cultural publishing circle.A group of young students,intellectuals,and returnees founded many journals,and the journal industry has ushered in a vigorous development.The rise of children’s books came from the increasing status of women and children after the May 4th Movement.Riding on this “journal fever”,they continued to grow and flourish,and in the 1930 s,they flourished.Since the beginning of the May 4th Movement,children have truly been loosened from the ancient traditional moral ethics and their status has gradually improved.The attention paid to children by the society has generally increased.The voice of education and aesthetic education has increased,and the importance of children has been continuously strengthened.Foreign theories such as Dewey’s “Children Standard” have been exchanged and absorbed locally,and various types of children’s educational institutions and related systems have been established.Juveniles are strong and the country is strong,prompting an increasing number of children’s book publishing organizations,and the variety of publications is gradually becoming richer and more diverse.Children’s spiritual world can be cultivated and irrigated.Children’s Library(the first episode)published by the Commercial Press in 1934 is one of the publishing teams.There are more than 3,500 illustrations in the 200-volume picture book,which is characterized by the first,starting from the“child-oriented view”,with a simple text and beautiful pictures to create a systematic and mobile small book for young children “Library” was the only reading for the lower grades of elementary school at that time.Secondly,there are 12 types of books in the library,the combination of knowledge and appreciation,the equal emphasis on literature and art,coupled with the implantation of universal values and scientific concepts,and the all-round educational concept profoundly affects the aesthetic education and moral education of young readers.Third,the graphic arrangement of this set of books is extremely innovative and contains the essence of traditional national culture.It is a typical representative of the practice of local children’s books,laying the pioneer position of Chinese children’s original picture books and becoming the first set of modern significance children’s books have an indelible contribution to children’s education in the Republic of China and have high research value.Based on the background of the development of children’s books and aesthetic education in the Republic of China,this article makes an in-depth analysis from the aspects of the publication and distribution of Children’s Library,the editorial team,the significance of the times,and the characteristics of pictures and texts,and studies the reasons and practices for the high unity of“form and meaning” Based on the theoretical basis of children’s standard,analyze the national spirit and value experience behind the publication of the library,in order to provide reference significance and inspiration for the development of children’s picture books today.
