| This report takes the translation of the suspense novel A Stranger in the House as the research text.Under the guidance of the communicative translation theory, some relevant translation skills will be used for case analysis. The translation task aims to help the translator seek proper expression of the target language to enrich the readers’ experience and accumulate the translation experience. It is mainly about the translation of words and sentences under the guidance of communicative translation theory.According to Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory,it is necessary to consider the differences between the style of the original work and the style of the target language,as well as the acceptance attitude of the local readers towards the work in the process of translation,so that the effect of the translation on the target readers is as close as possible to that of the original readers. The translation theory is just suitable for the translation of suspense novels.Different from other works, suspense novels attract readers’ interests by creating suspense, and they focus on mysterious atmosphere, which plays a crucial role in suspense novels. The difficult point in the translation of the suspense novel is how to make it achieve the same effect when it is translated into another language and how to make the readers with different cultural backgrounds obtain the similar or same response. Therefore, under the guidance of communicative translation theory, the first six chapters of A Stranger in the House will be analyzed and translated to look for proper expression of the target language with the combination of local language and cultural backgrounds by using translation techniques such as diction, amplification, omission, conversion, division, combination, constructing and negation,so as to make the readers with different cultural backgrounds obtain the similar or same response. |
