Cthulhu Mythos modern horror series novels,by 20 th American horror novelist H.P.Lovecraft,combines horror with fantasy and science fiction elements. It is created based on Lovecraft’s Cosmicism,in order to rethink the ontological problems of human civilization in the universe. In the novels,Cthulhu is the representative of a series of horrible "Gods" from outer space, which breaks up the homogeneous relationship between the cosmos and human nature by showing human’s insignificance.Otherwise,it also emerged that native American people had deeply fallen into scare and anxiety when facing the immigration in Early twentieth Century, according to the description of the heterogeneous relationship between different civilization in the universe. This article believed that heterogeneous monsters in the Cthulhu Mythos can’t represent a kind of Lovecraft’s racist thoughts as past studies considered.Combined with Lovecraft’s life, conversation, letters and papers,it can be found that the horror image in Cthulhu Mythos had deeply emerged the voice of marginal religious and cultural groups in the white mainstream society,on the premise of destabilized the west-centrism.In addition, through the writing of the conflicts and confrontations among the "heterogeneous" religions, political and cultural groups and the mainstream cultural groups in American society,Lovecraft’s novel also reflects a major dilemma caused by the separation of the private sphere and the public sphere under the modern western democratic system. This points to the institutional roots of the frequent occurrence of cultural discrimination and racial prejudice in the modern western society, and thus endows Lovecraft’s novels with profound research value of political philosophy. In view of the above, this paper will trace back to Lovecraft’s life circumstances and the formation of the theory of novel creation in first chapter. It is pointed out that the formation of the "heterogeneity" terror thought in Lovecraft’s novels comes from ancient polytheism, modern scientific rationalism and American nativism. The second chapter analyzes the extremely changeable artistic features of Lovecraft’s novels, and points out that the changes of his novel creation techniques are closely connected with the changes of his political thoughts and civilization concepts. In the last chapter, the author analyzes the mythology and political logic behind the plot and the creation of the monster image, taking the three works created in the middle and late period of Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos as an example. Finally,it points out how Lovecraft’s novels expose and reflect on the shortcomings of the modern western countries’ system by subverting the western enlightenment and liberal democratic discourse.
