| The Seminar on China-ASEAN Cross-Border E-Commerce 2019,an event hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China and organized by the China-ASEAN Exposition Secretariat, was held in Nanning,Guangxi on November 12th.Sixteen officials from the ASEAN countries attended the seminar with the aim to deepen multilateral cooperation in economy and trade and promote cross-border e-commerce.The author was responsible for the consecutive interpretation of the themed lecture, which provided authentic and valuable resources for the research. To keep track of the whole interpreting process and ensure its reliability, the interpreter recorded and transcribed the whole lecture. This report consists of five parts:introduction,pre-interpreting preparation, case analysis, interpreting evaluation, and conclusion. In light of Gile’s Effort Model, the problems encountered during this interpreting process were attributed to three aspects:lack of efforts in listening and analysis, lack of efforts in short-term memory and lack of efforts in target language production.Through case analysis, the author investigated the interpreting failures and proposed viable solutions based on her reflection. The research shows that some strategies including omitting less critical information, improving pre-interpreting preparation, developing a scientific system of note-taking and cooperating with partners can help interpreters to coordinate brain resources effectively and allocate energy reasonably. It is hoped that this report will be of reference for learners and interpreters. |
