In recent years, along with more and more international patent applications,China becomes the largest patent application country in the world. In order to boost the popularization and development of Chinese patent technology in the world, the patent text translation industry arises at the proper moment. In this report, the author selected the patent application of Film Tearing Mechanism and Production Line as the translation practice material. The translation practice material relates to a novel film tearing mechanism and the production line equipped with the novel film tearing mechanism.According to the patent application, many problems existing in the prior art can be solved so that the author believed that the translation of the material is quite conducive to the promotion of the novel film tearing mechanism.Due to the fact that patent texts belong to non-literary texts with accuratecontent and objective reality, the author should pay attention to the transmission of information and should be faithful to the original text. Both the content and the form of the original text should be maintained to the greatest extent. However, patent text translation involves professional knowledge of various fields,it is impossible for any translator to master all fields of knowledge so translators may have some limitations in understanding of the original text.Even if the translators fully understand the original text, the problem that the original text and the translated text are not equivalent in content can also be caused due to differences between Chinese and western cultures, and therefore the information failed to be transmitted.Guided by the functional equivalence theory proposed by Eugene Nida, the author discussed the translation of patent texts from lexical, syntactic, discourse and stylistic levels, and the purposes of maximizing the transmission of information and enabling the target readers to understand the translation better can be achieved.
