With a closer communication in science and technology between China and the world, more and more advanced technologies are introduced into China.Patent specification is the brief review of technologies of a patent and benefits the searching of patent documents. The translation of patent specification is of vital importance to the development and communication of world science and technology.Based on the translation practice for Arkmid.com(Tianjin),which involves 50 patent specifications and has a length of 10,000 characters, the report seeks to generalize the difficulties in the patent specification translation practice from lexical, syntactic and textual levels and put forward translation skills and strategies to solve these difficulties.Under the guidance of the three translation judging criteria raised by Eugene A.Nida, namely the general efficiency of the communication process, comprehension of intent and equivalence of response, the report aims to give tentative suggestions to typical problems in patent specification translation. The report can be divided into four chapters: chapter one is a brief introduction to the background, requirements and significance of the translation task;chapter two introduces what the writer has done before translation, during translation, and after translation;chapter three is the case study which makes an analysis on all the difficulties the translator faces from lexical, syntactic and textual levels and puts forwards translation strategies and skills under the guidance of Nida's three translation judging criteria;chapter four is a conclusion of the report, which concludes all the strategies to solve difficulties in the translation and raises suggestions to patent specifications translation.
