| It is important to realize the effective teaching in English classes of secondary vocational schools,in the hope to improve the students’ English proficiency,and enhance their comprehensive competitiveness.It is of great significance to study the management in English classroom in secondary vocational schools and to look for strategies for promoting secondary vocational education.The study was carried on in G vocational school in Guangzhou.We used student-oriented questionnaire and teacher-oriented interview to study the status quo of the classroom management in English teaching.There were four dimensions of classroom management,including teaching time and management time,teacher-student relationship and student-student relationship,teaching activities and management activities,physical environment and psychological environment.Through the analysis of the questionnaire and interview results,it is found that there are six main problems in English classroom management in secondary vocational schools.Traditional teaching methods cannot stimulate students’ enthusiasm for learning and cannot guarantee the teaching efficiency.The class size is too large to guarantee the teaching effect;Students’ self-control is low,thus the classroom discipline is loose,which leads to the difficulty in guaranteeing the teaching efficiency;The teachers lack the abilities and methods in classroom management;The school fails to provide training to enhance teachers’ knowledge and ability of classroom management.Moreover,we analyze the causes of classroom management problems.Secondary vocational schools have insufficient investment in infrastructure,hardware and software construction and management;Not enough attention is paid to the reform of classroom management;Not enough training is provided for teachers to improve their classroom management knowledge and abilities.Teachers pay less attention to management;Teachers lack of skills and abilities for classroom management;Classroom teaching fails to attract students’ attention.Students have low enthusiasm and lack of confidence in English learning;Secondary vocational students are teenagers,and they don’t have strong sense ofself-management;They don’t have enough abilities for self-management.In view of the problems and their causes,this paper puts forward optimization strategies:on the school level,secondary vocational colleges should pay attention to the reform of classroom management.Schools should improve their own management level,and actively explore effective measures to solve the existing problems of classroom management.Schools should constantly improve and implement the classroom management system.Schools should improve support for teachers’ classroom management.Schools should improve support for teachers’ teaching.On the teacher level,teachers should renew their education conception and attach importance to the task of "management".Teachers should actively enhance their classroom management ability.Teachers should update their teaching methods and improve their teaching ability.Teachers should maintain a good teacher-student relationship and student-student relationship.Teachers should create a good classroom environment for students.On the student level,stimulate the students’ consciousness of self-discipline,and help them to establish correct learning attitude.Cultivate students’ ability of self-management in class.Enhance students’ learning confidence and motivation.Improve students’ autonomous learning ability. |
