As a practice report about English to Chinese translation, its translation task is excerpted from an essay entitled "The Interactive Effects of Stratospheric Ozone Depletion,UV Radiation, and Climate Change on Aquatic Ecosystems".The content of the chosen essay can be categorized as environmental science, and it was published in Photochemical&Photobiological Sciences,issue.18,2019,by Royal Society of Chemistry. The authors are professors, scholars or experts from universities or institutions in America,Britain,Germany and Sweden. The content of the essay are based on data from field experiments conducted around the world and on current state of knowledge, presenting frontier scientific achievements. Thus, the translation task has great translation and reference value. The report, which is guided by the Functional Equivalence Theory of Eugene Nida and combines a lot of translation reference and practical experience, concludes the translation strategies and skills of EST(English for Science and Technology)text in terms of passive voice, long and complicated sentences, and technical terms. This report selects the first 3 sessions of the chosen essay to be the translation task and consists of four chapters.Chapter one introduces background information, significance of the translation task and language style of the source text.Chapter two includes preparations before translation, translation process and quality control.Chapter three, based on the Functional Equivalence Theory, analyzes translation issues from lexical, syntactic and discourse level respectively.Chapter four summaries the translation practice, including translation reflections and limitations of the task.According to the task description and case analyses,it is concluded as follows:1.The target language should be faithful to the source language and to be accurate and standard.2.The style of the target language needs to be in line with that of the sci-tech paper, which means to be professional and precise.3.Environmental science involves knowledge from many other branch subjects,so translator’s lexical and specialized knowledge should be more extensive and profound.
