International academic exchanges will inevitably involve translation. The translation of academic works has played a great role in promoting academic communication and development. Most comprehensive publishers and university press have published translated academic works. At the same time, the Chinese translation of foreign academic works has also attracted more and more attention. The source text of this translation report is excerpted from Chapter 1 and the first seven sections of Chapter 2 of Research Methodologies in Translation Studies co-authored by Gabriela Saldanha,a Lecturer in Translation Studies in University of Birmingham, and Sharon O’Brien,a Senior Lecturer in Translation Studies in Dublin City University. This book addresses the needs of students and scholars for methodological guidance in translation studies, and provides a comprehensive elaboration of methodologies within translation studies from an academic perspective. There has been no Chinese version since its publication although it is vital for the researchers in translation studies. The source text adopted in this translation report is classified as academic and informative text that aims to transfer valid information. In the process of translation,by using Newmark’s communicative translation as a theoretical framework and combing the stylistic and linguistic features of the original text, the author summarized some translation techniques at the lexical, syntactic and discourse levels. This translation report falls into four parts.Chapter 1 introduces the source text, the features of the source text and the significance of the task.Chapter 2 describes the whole translation process, including preparations before translation, translation process proper, and quality control.Chapter 3 is E-C translation case analysis that focuses on the translation techniques at the lexical, syntactic and discourse levels.Chapter 4 discusses the translation reflections and limitations of the translation report. |
