| The translator selected an agricultural text Restoration Agriculture as the source material for this translation practice.This book is written by Mark Shepard and published by Acres U.S.A.It shows readers the damage of human production activities to the ecological environment,and explains what is restoration agriculture and how to realize this sustainable way of agricultural production.As shown through the author’s real experience of working with the land,the development of restoration agriculture is of great significance for optimizing agricultural production patterns,improving food security,and boosting land output and economic value.Therefore,the Chinese translation of this book can be a valuable reference for our country to develop its sustainable agriculture.This report is composed of four parts: the task description,the translation process,case analysis and summary.Chapter one gives an overall introduction of the translation task,including the background and significance of the task,information of the source text and the author.Chapter two explains the translation process,such as the translator’s preparation for the translation,her analysis of major difficulties in translation,as well as proofreading and revision after translation.As an essential part of this report,chapter three provides a detailed analysis of some typical examples in the translation of key terms,complicated sentences and rhetorical devices,as well as in the conveyance of original tones and realization of textual cohesion,so as to demonstrate major translating methods and techniques that the translator has adopted under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory.Literal translation is generally the first choice of the translator.Meanwhile,in order to achieve the most proper version,she has also adopted different translating techniques flexibly including amplification,division,reorganization,substitution,omission,compensation,etc..In syntactical translation,the translator has mainly employed division and reorganization.In treating rhetorical devices,the translator has also adopted literal translation and free translation.In conveying the tones of the source text,the translator has used literal translation and amplification.To realize the cohesion of the text,translation techniques of omission,amplification and substitution have been employed.Finally,Chapter four is a brief summary of this translation practice. |
