| This report is based on the translation of excerpts of Agriculture:A Very Short Introduction authored by Paul Brassley and Richard Soffe.This book provides us a series of general knowledge about agriculture,including soils and crops,farm animals,agricultural products and trade,inputs into agriculture,modern and traditional farming,and farming futures.The translator selects the Introduction,Chapter 1(soils and crops)and a part of Chapter 2(farm animals)as the translation project for English-Chinese translation under the guidance of Lian Shuneng’s contrastive studies of English and Chinese.The translation report consists of four chapters.Chapter One introduces the background,introduction and significance of this task.Chapter Two describes the translation process,which mainly includes pre-translation preparation for the background knowledge,terminology,analysis of the stylistic features of the source text and the theoretical foundation for translation;major difficulties in translating abstract nouns,terms and complex sentences;proofreading and revising after translating.Chapter Three uses cases to elaborate from the perspective of ten differences between English and Chinese according to Lian Shuneng’s contrastive studies of English and Chinese.This chapter involves various translation techniques,including conversion,amplification,division and reconstruction etc..Chapter Four concludes experience and gains obtained from this task and points out the problems and insufficiencies. |
