Purpose:The aim of this study was to explore the influence of 10-week national traditional sports events-Ansai waist drum exercises on the motor ability of autistic children, and to provide reference for the exercise intervention to autistic children.Method:Twenty autistic children aged 7-14 years old were selected as subjects.According to the principle of stratified random sampling, the subjects were divided into experimental group(10 persons)and control group(10 persons)according to age, gender and severity of autism. The experimental group performed 10 weeks of Ansai waist drum exercises, twice a week for 60 minutes each time. The control group conducted regular physical education activities in the same period.Heart rate were monitored during the exercise period at week 6 and week 8 to ensure the intensity of the exercise between the two groups remaining similar.Gross motor development evaluation(TGMD-3),physical health tests(one leg standing with eyes opened,sit-and-reach,choice reaction time)and autism symptoms evaluation(CARS scale)were conducted pre-,post-and 2 weeks after the exercise intervention.Result:(1)Compared with pre-intervention,the TGMD-3 score was increased significantly at post-and 2 weeks after the intervention in the experimental group.Compared with pre-intervention,the TGMD-3 score did not change significantly at post-and 2 weeks after the intervention in the control group.(2)Compared with pre-intervention,the time of one leg standing with eyes opened was prolonged significantly, the result of sit-and-reach was improved significantly, and the choice reaction time was shortened significantly at post-and 2weeks after the intervention in the experimental group.Compared with pre-intervention,the result of sit-and-reach and the choice reaction time did not change significantly, but the time of one leg standing with eyes opened was prolonged significantly at post-and 2 weeks after the intervention in the control group.(3)Compared with pre-intervention,the CARS score was decreased significantly at post-and 2 weeks after the intervention both in the experimental group and the control group.(4)The score of TGMD-3 negatively correlated with the score of CARS scale significantly.Conclusion:(1)Ten weeks of Ansai waist drum exercises could promote the development of gross movements, increase the balance ability, flexibility, sensitivity and body coordination, and improve the autistic symptoms of autistic children. These benefits could maintain 2 weeks after the end of the intervention.(2)The benefits of Ansai drum exercise to the balance ability and the symptoms of autism of autistic children were similar to regular physical education activities.(3)There was a negative correlation between the development of gross movements and the symptoms of autism of autistic children. |
