This paper is a report on the translation of 7 Keys to Comprehension(Excerpts).This book,7 Keys to Comprehension,proposes effective solutions to children’s reading problems in the United States.This book not only provides practical strategies for teachers and parents on how to teach children to read and help them become good readers,but also shows specific operations of the reading strategies.It is instructive and provides some reference for children’s reading education in China,so it has high translation and research value.The translator selects the first two chapters of this book for translation.The first chapter focuses on reading for life,the second chapter explains the first key:sensory images.The selected source text is an informative text in accordanee with Newmark’s Text Type Theory.This translation practice is guided by the Communicative Translation Theory,which underlines the function of language and focuses on readership.The translator analyzes educational terms,the lexical level and Iong sentences of the source text,reads a lot of parallel texts related to the source text,uses internet resources to obtain the background information to finish this translation practice.This report contains the contents of five parts:introduction,theoretical guidance for the translation project,translation process,case analysis,and conclusion.Under the guidance of Communicative Translation Theory,the translator adopts different translation techniques to solve difficulties in the translation process,including adaptation,adding,conversion,recasting,cutting,so as to achieve a precise,smooth and idiomatic translated version.
