| Many environmental problems caused by the development of modern agriculture have attracted more and more attentions and concerns. In order to protect the ecological environment, utilize resources rationally and realize the sustainable development of agricultural ecosystem,it is imperative to develop organic agriculture.Focusing on the aspects of sustainable development, food security and free trade,Global Development of Organic Agriculture: Challenges and Prospects explores the challenges and prospects of the development of organic agriculture in the world. It is of significance to guide the development of organic agriculture in China. Therefore, the author selects two chapters from this book as the translation material for the report. The translation material is a typical agricultural science and technology text, which has the characteristics of accurate words, strong logic and complex sentences. The purpose of this report is to study how the author, guided by the theory of functional equivalence, completes the translation of Global Development of Organic Agriculture: Challenges and Prospects, and makes the translated text conform to the Chinese expression habits on the basis of correct transmission of scientific and technological information.According to Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory, translation process can be divided into four stages: analysis-transfer-restructuring-testing.First,the deep structure behind the surface structure of the source language is analyzed.Second, the analyzed information is transformed into the deep structure of target language.According to the expression habits and stylistic features of target language, the corresponding surface structure is then reconstructed. The last step is to verify the accuracy and comprehensibility of the translation.Based on the translation practice, this report explores the application of functional equivalence theory in translation, andsummarizes the difficulties encountered in translation practice, such as understanding barriers caused by insufficient knowledge reserve and language understanding problems caused by cultural differences. Therefore, the author adopts corresponding translation strategies like addition, omission, conversion, inversion and division, aiming to find the best translation methods to ensure the quality of translation. |
